Planning-vehicle funding
When to fund, how much to transfer, and how alternative approaches affect liquidity and flexibility.
A² Lab
A² Lab is A&M Private Wealth Partners' research and methodology function for structural wealth-planning decisions. We apply quantitative simulation, scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and decision frameworks to questions involving trusts, entities, liquidity, governance, and the interaction between a family's planning structure and investment portfolio.

Families do not experience their wealth as separate legal, tax, investment, and governance workstreams. A funding decision can affect liquidity. An entity selection can determine time horizons and control. A governance choice can shape future flexibility. A² Lab applies rigorous quantitative analysis to consolidate these interdependencies into one analytical view so that decisions, assumptions, and trade-offs can be assessed before plans are implemented.

On InvestmentNews’ In the Nasdaq, Jonathan joins Gregg Greenberg to discuss how coordinated analysis can connect tax modeling, portfolio optimization, and estate planning.
Jonathan Fitzgerald, Co-Founder and Head of Wealth Planning at A&M Private Wealth Partners, announces the launch of the A² Lab and explains the planning challenge it is designed to address. Families do not experience tax, estate, investment, liquidity, and governance decisions as separate work streams. He discusses how scenario analysis can clarify assumptions and trade-offs before a plan is implemented, giving families and their advisors a structured way to evaluate how decisions interact.
When to fund, how much to transfer, and how alternative approaches affect liquidity and flexibility.
How formation, ownership, and capital movements interact across operating companies, holding entities, trusts, and personal balance sheets.
How obligations, distributions, taxes, and investment commitments affect near- and long-term liquidity.
How control, accountability, and family decision processes can influence execution and resilience.
How planning structures and investment decisions influence one another across the family system.
How the work moves
The Lab works within AMPWP's A²MP planning process: Assess, Analyze, Map, and Position.
We begin with the facts: what a family owns, how assets and entities are structured, how decisions are governed, what constraints apply, and what the family is trying to accomplish. Analysis then tests alternatives, maps interdependencies, and helps position an implementable path.
Establish facts, structures, ownership, cash flows, constraints, and goals.
Model scenarios, test assumptions, and identify sensitivities, risks, and execution gaps.
Connect legal, tax, investment, fiduciary, and governance decisions in a coordinated framework.
Translate analysis into decisions on sequencing, ownership, and monitoring.
Our perspective

The Lab examines relationships across structures instead of treating each discipline as an isolated question.
Analysis is organized around choices, trade-offs, sequencing, and execution.
The Lab develops research, methodology, models, and case-based insight for complex wealth decisions.
Analysis begins with client objectives and is not organized around a proprietary product line.
Technology-assisted substantiation can run alongside internal modeling; human judgment, review, and fiduciary context remain central.
A² Lab is designed for ultra-high-net-worth families, closely held business owners approaching a transition or liquidity event, family offices, and the advisors who help them navigate interconnected planning, investment, tax, legal, fiduciary, and governance decisions.
Research and perspectives
The Lab publishes research papers, methodology notes, and educational perspectives on structural wealth-planning questions.
